This sweet baby doll is American Character’s “Tiny Tears” from the 1950’s, a drink and wet baby doll that every little girl dreamed of bringing home or finding under the tree during the holidays! She is a 13 Baby and in beautiful condition. One of the rarest Tiny Tears you will find, Here is why. She was made in late 1957, early 1958 when American Character transitioned their “hands down” Rubber bodied dolls to all VINYL bodied dolls, shortly after this, the hands were also turned outward or to their side. The rubber “hands down” bodied dolls are very desirable among serious collectors, and the vinyl “hands down” bodied dolls are even harder to come by since they were only produced for a very short time. This means this sweet baby’s body will last for as long as she is here, while the rubber bodies tended to deteriorate or crack after time. In 1959, American Character patented their “Rock A Bye” eye feature on Tiny Tears, which allowed the baby to keep her eyes open while laid down, but if you rock her gently side to side her eyes would close as if falling asleep. This pretty baby has open and close eyes (as opposed to closing slowly), which dates her to pre 1959. Lastly, she is the very rare DARK Brunette haired doll which is a lovely contrast to her high color. The very dark hair is hard to find. This sweet baby still lets out a strong cry if you squeeze her belly. Her beautiful dark hair is thick and curly and styled as it was from the factory. Tiny has gorgeous cerulean blue open and close eyes with all her lashes, vibrant perfect “High Color” face paint with rosy cheeks (a couple extremely tiny marks in her color of her cheeks which do not detract) , she appears to not have been played with much if at all, she is in fabulous condition. Tiny Tears is dressed in her original factory – hard to find complete outfit, the Dimity pink stripe dress, bonnet (Reproduction), White slip with pink trim and lace edge, diaper cover and white socks with pink trim and rubber bootie shoes. The outfit is lovely condition. She also has her diaper on. This gorgeous baby is one of the most RARE and pristine Tiny Tears we have had, and perfectly ready for display or cuddling.
